Electrical Controls Service Technician

Metropolitan Industries is looking for an Electrical Controls Service Technician to troubleshoot and repair automated controls for water/wastewater industry. Ideal candidate must be self-motivated independent worker with ability to multitask between multiple active projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to recognize and understand electrical symbols
  • Some previous experience with electrical wiring, preferably in a panel shop helpful but not necessary
  • Wireman must have the ability to use hand tools, power tools and other related electrical equipment
  • Ability to work quickly, while always utilizing safe work practices
  • Ability to stand, stoop and/or kneel for extended periods of time

Responsibilities:

  • Understand schematics for electrical control panels and be familiar with PLC’s.
  • Interface with project team (i.e. Sales staff, Mechanical Engineer, Assemblers, Project Manager, etc.).
  • Build positive relationships with coworkers and peers.
  • Perform risk mitigation (i.e. anticipate problems before they occur).
  • Troubleshoot and debug (i.e. diagnoses trouble or defects, determines corrective action and repairs system).
  • Ensure that all equipment is in proper working condition after troubleshooting.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and diagnostics on pump control systems and components.
  • Perform system checkout and systems startups for service installed jobs.
  • Provide status updates to management on assigned projects.
  • Comply with the company’s safety procedures.
  • Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer locations in the Metropolitan Chicagoland and Illinois area
  • This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand when on call.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be independently mobile.
  • The employee is also required to interact with a computer, and communicate with peers, and co-workers.
  • This position requires the use of basic hand tools.
  • This position requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling and stooping for long lengths of time.
  • This position requires frequent lifting and moving of objects up to 50lb.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with some college or technical school course work and minimum of two years of job-related experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Employees must provide their own basic set of hand tools.

Preferred:

  • Associates degree in electrical maintenance, electrical control panel building or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
  • 2+ years of experience wiring control panel equipment.
  • Ability to read/understand electrical schematics and create redlines.
  • High precision, close tolerance proficiency
  • Ability to use hand tools.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills of electrical controls systems
  • Proficient in standard and metric systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others, and have a positive attitude
  • Must have ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Sharp, quick, dedicated and innovative problem solver
  • Must be organized, creative, results-oriented, focused and attentive to detail
  • Exhibits continuous improvement
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
